If you ask me what my perfect day consists of the beginning and the end my differ but somewhere in the middle will be teaching a class of Toddlers aged from 2 to 3 years old. It's a magical age where an everyday task like cleaning your teeth is filled with wonder, excitement and a sense of achievement. I've been extremely lucky in my life that I have always been surrounded by children, when I left home and had my first child my little sister was only 8 years old. I had two amazing girls in 2 and a half years and spent fun filled days playing with salt dough, painting, baking and generally learning with my children. 11 years on I gave birth to my final child this time a boy and I learned the joys of rough and tumble as well as how exciting lego can be! Now I have 2 gorgeous grandsons both under 3 who allow me to indulge my playful side when I'm not working. With an under 5 pretending is as much part of the learning process as doing. All Loulibelle Yoga classes begin with us asleep in bed, snoring is optional, (although there must be some Daddies out there that are pretty loud snorers, it's amazing how truthful toddlers are :) ). Mums are often amazed at how much knowledge their little ones have, from what they want for breakfast to how you make it. We make believe making breakfast and then choose our clothing. They all know that on sunny days they need a hat and sun cream, and they jump whole heartedly into buttoning up imaginary coats and pulling on wellies. I've always found that any lesson is best remembered if there is group participation and lots of laughter. Sing "Row, row, row your boat" and just watch the delight of the screaming when they meet the crocodile, sing " Five little ducks" and get each child to hide a duck behind their backs, and then bring them all back and make you jump at the end of the song, I can guarantee you that Daddy will be regaled with this when he gets home. If you want to inspire an under 5, tap into your inner child, forget being embarrassed, forget the rules and make it fun. Believe me your day will be so much brighter if you "get down with the kids" literally. Don't just take my word for it, today play den building, a sheet, a dining room table and maybe a picnic, bet you have as much, if not more fun then your under 5 especially if you let them come up with the ideas of what's happening :) |
