Honour your body

Ever have those days where you wake up tired, a sleepy a cup of coffee will fix tired, but bone tired, deep seated exhaustion?

We all get it from time to time. Usually when we've been playing and working a little too hard or over indulging in all the love delights of food and drink.

I've heard people trying to insist that if you get up and active it'll pass, or do a work out it'll raise your mood. To those people I say a big loud "SSSSHHHHHH!!!!!".

On days where you are tired, your body is telling you it needs a rest. It may need a rest from exercise, it may need a rest from your brain working too hard or you could just have been over indulging and it's crying out for some TLC.

What you need to do is nurture your body, not bully it. Instead of launching into an hours manic workout listen to your body if it says gentle is the way to go. Eat healthily, drink lots of water, relax for at least 5 minutes doing something that you really want to do, whether that be reading a chapter in a book or listening to an amazing piece of music.

If on days when you're world weary you tune into to what your body is telling you, you'll be doing something truly wonderful and be well on your way to enlightenment...you will start to become body aware.

Being body aware is not just knowing that your hungry or how to walk through a door without stubbing your toe, it's learning to listen to the tell tale signs of fatigue and letting your body relax and heal before you push it too far. It's about knowing when you're truly hungry, not just eating because it's lunchtime. It's knowing when you need time alone so you don't explode at someone for pushing your buttons once too often.

If we honour our bodies we honour our Spirit.

So if you're like me today, tired and weary, not because I'm ill but because I had a manic weekend with good food, drink and company, then do as I'm doing, give yourself permission to take care of Body and Soul. Take time for you and take it slow and easy.
