So I blogged about cutting back on my commitments and how I'd decided what was important and then....
Well today I went
along to pick our allotment. We live in a flat, so no garden and I
really miss being able to potter, grow herbs and veg, and just be able
to be outside in my own space enjoying sunshine and fresh air. I walked
to the allotments and met with 2 other families also signing up for the
day. I was going to get 2nd pick of the 3 available plots, so we walked around the whole site which
covers almost 23 acres, with 310 plots, the average plot size being
300sq yds. Some plots are beautifully manicured and heaving with late
summer fruit and veg, others are works in progress. Being
me, the plot I picked was the least popular, but there is method in my
madness. The edge of the plot has brambles, all heavily laden with
gorgeous plump blackberries, the entrance to the plot has an amazing
Rosehip bush also heavily laden with fruit. So a harvest with little
need to work at it other than plan what recipes to use the fruit in. Someone
has laid out a basic beautiful plot with lavender, and some herbs,
however it is overgrown and not for someone that wants a clean slate. I
do not want a clean slate, I love that someone else lovingly cared for
this plot and has put down the basics for me. It gives me something to
work with instead of a blank canvas, that to be honest would have been a
little overwhelming. SO
a soggy, overcast Sunday is now going to be filled with plans and
imagining the joy my family and I will get from the meditative work of
gardening. Colouring pencils and paper ready, off I go :) |
